Historic theatre in Manaus, also known locally as Teatro Amazonas, opened in 1896 in Manaus's Historic Centre. Its design was selected through the Portuguese Office of Engineering and Architecture in Lisbon and coordinated by Italian architect Celestial Sacardim. It has Renaissance architectural features and retains much of its historic decoration, with a central dome formed from 36,000 pieces in the colours of the Brazilian flag imported from Alsace in France. In July 2026 it joined the Theatro da Paz in Belém as part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for the Theatres of the Amazon. Located on Avenida Eduardo Ribeiro in the Centro district, beside Largo de São Sebastião.
