Industrial city 30 km southwest of Sofia, recognized as one of the leading carnival cities and a full member of the International Federation of Carnival Cities. Hosts the International Masquerade Games (Surva Festival), the biggest event of its kind in Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula, recognized by UNESCO, attracting over 5,000 costumed participants from Bulgaria and neighboring countries.
