The star of the show is Iglesia San Francisco, an 18th-century church built by Fray Vicente Muñoz and perfected by architect Luis Giorgi, an icon of Salta in terracotta red, ivory, and white. The bell tower is one of the tallest in South America at 54 meters; its bell is called the Campana de la Patria, ordered by General Belgrano along with the ammunitions used in the Battle of Salta during the fight for independence. The Museo San Francisco is open from 10 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. You can tour the old convent and climb the bell tower; for a free tour scan the QR codes for a self-guided tour of the church. Address: Plaza 9 de Julio.
