Capital of Pernambuco, surrounded by water with vibrant culture and a creative economy, known for its beautiful beaches. The historic centre has colonial architecture around Praça do Marco Zero, with the Museu do Recife de Francisco Brennand and the Instituto Ricardo Brennand art collection in a castle-like building in the gardens. The UNESCO World Heritage Catedral de Olinda has a retable with a real-size image of Nossa Senhora do Carmo. Famous beaches are in the Boa Viagem area, the most touristy region with hotels and safety. The historic centre has colourful colonial buildings and is good for exploring at night.
